In a major shift in Miami’s public transportation strategy, officials from Miami-Dade County have unveiled plans in the beginning of 2023 to extend the Metromover system to Miami Beach. The project called Baylink is expected to have a cost of $1 billion.
This expansion of the Metromover, offering a direct route between downtown Miami and the Beach, will be traveling above the MacArthur causeway and linking the Government Center to south Miami Beach.
Decreasing traffic congestion, leading to lower carbon emissions. Construction is slated to start in 2025 and operations are projected to be between 2028 and 2029.
Plans are underway to extend the Metromover to Wynwood, Midtown Miami, and the Design District as well.
